Mad Monday

So, I know that Mad Monday is supposed to be directed at music and movies, but I'm going to branch it out a bit today. Not too far - just over to television.

I used to watch several shows a week with my mother and sister. We wouldn't miss a single episode of various shows, including Gilmore Girls, One Tree Hill, Charmed, and many more. Slowly, they all seemed to change and/or fade away. Some ran their course, while others simply became less interesting. Until by the end of last year, we were finally down to just one.

That one was Supernatural. We watch it faithfully each week and I don't know that we've missed a single episode yet. We own the seasons on disc and have even rewatched episodes. It's the supernatural elements and the good-looking guys that draw us to the show. Combine that with a look at the legends and myths that support the supernatural and you've got quite a combination.

This year, we are trying out a new show - Vampire Diaries. I can't say much about it because I have only seen two episodes thus far. Those two episodes have been quite interesting and I'm definitely looking forward to seeing more. Join me on Thursday and watch Vampire Diaries followed by Supernatural. They both come on the CW network.

We may also be watching Gossip Girl once again. We started watching it when it came out on the CW. We watched it all the way through season 1 and even continued into season 2 with it. Then, somewhere along the line, we gave up on it - until about a week ago that is. That was when we decided to try to play catch-up. We obtained a copy of season 2 from the local library and spent this past weekend watching it. I'm not sure why we gave up on it - it was quite entertaining to watch. Now, we're going to give season 3 a try. It starts in about fifteen minutes, so I'd better be off to it! Happy Mad Monday!

Mad Monday

Music. Movies. Which to choose? It's always a difficult decision.

I have an idea! Last week, I listed my ten favorite movies for you. How about I shoot for ten of my favorite songs for this week? Here they are (in no particular order):

1. "When the Day met the Night" - Panic at the Disco
2. "My Never" - Blue October
3. "Follow Through" - Gavin DeGraw
4. "You'll Ask for Me" - Tyler Hilton
5. "The Crow and the Butterfly" - Shinedown
6. "Here without You" - 3 Doors Down
7. "If Everyone Cared" - Nickelback
8. "Fix You" - Coldplay
9. "Human" - The Killers
10. "Hey There Delilah" - Plain White T's

Truth is, I like most songs from any of the artists listed above. I just picked one song from each.

Mad Monday: My Favorite Movie

Did you read the post last week regarding my favorite books? Remember how I said there were too many I liked to simply pick just one? Well, I'm afraid the same is true with movies. I really enjoy watching movies. This means I have seen lots of movies and many of them have ranked pretty high in my book. I'll list my top ten (in no particular order) below.

1. Pirates of the Carribean (I liked one a lot better than two and three)
2. Lord of the Rings (the entire trilogy)
3. Troy
4. Stardust (the movie was as good as the book)
5. Ever After (this one would be in first place if these were in order - I could watch this movie over and over and still get teary eyed at parts)
6. Elizabethtown
7. Undiscovered (not enough people seem to know about this one)
8. Tristan and Isolde (awesome love story)
9. Sweeney Todd (Johnny Depp does an amazing job)
10. The Chronicles of Narnia (I enjoyed The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe as well as Prince Caspian - I'm also looking forward to the next one)

So, I shared my top ten. What's yours?

Mad Monday: Concert Review

On Saturday, August 22nd, I had the amazing opportunity to attend a concert at the House of Blues with my sister. It is one that we had been looking forward to for months (literally).

The concert opened with a group called Ours. I had never heard this group before. I am not a fan of hearing a group for the first time in concert because you can't always get a true guage of your opinion of them. The drums drowned out many of the words the lead singer was singing, so I have no way of knowing whether or not I liked the lyrics of their songs. And lyrics are important to me. They sounded good, but I need to look them up again to give a true opinion of their music.

Next up was Switchfoot. I have been a fan of their music for a long time, so I was quite delighted to see them in person. They put on an amazing show. The lead singer was quite enthusiastic and even came out into the audience to sing. We were a bit worried that one girl's lighter was going to catch him on fire while he was out there, but it was still amazing. They sound just as good in person and I would highly recommend seeing them if you get the chance. I also heard that they should have a new album coming out soon...

Last was the headliner: Blue October. They were the reason we bought the tickets. I am happy to say that they sound amazing in person. I was in no way disappointed by them. They played many of the songs that I love by them including "My Never," which has inspired a lot in Shadows of Forever. They are another band that I would recommend seeing in person.

If you have not heard of Switchfoot or Blue October, I would recommend looking up their music over at http://www.playlist.com/. I can recommend a few songs if you're interested...
